The Paducah & Louisville Railway, also and possibly better known as the PAL or P&L is the oldest and most storied part of the Four rivers group. It came about during the breakup and collapse of the ICG railroad. The ICG was mainly a merger between the IC and the GM&O railroads. In one of those “what were they thinking “ moments they merged the two railroads. The GM&O itself was made up of a collection of unprofitable railroads who only continued to be unprofitable so one could guess what happened. The PAL and the Paducah locomotive shops were spun off and things have been looking up ever since.
